011: your family may not wait, sir, keep on believing
Considering the wide range of religious traditions and non-traditions in attendance in this school, it strikes me as strange that we should have a long weekend now. I'd assume that those who used the extra days for actual religious reasons were in the minority, even counting the pagan faiths from which the mainstream pseudo-Christian tradition is derived.

I'm not complaining, mind -- after all, only rarely do I have an excuse to go home, find various of my relatives gathered for essentially no reason at all, and eat tofurkey in a completely secular manner (the tofurkey may not have been universally appreciated, but I, personally, consider it a highlight of the weekend). Whether celebrating any sort of holiday or not, I hope the rest of the student body is taking advantage of this time.

Although I can't say I've ever participated in its traditions, I must admit that I've always been particularly struck by the blatancy of Easter. After all, the name comes directly from the German goddess Ēostre, and what other Christian holiday is determined by the cycles of the moon? And then, of course, there are the obvious fertility symbols. I shouldn't have to point them out because --

I'll tie this up later. On second thought, I probably won't -- Great-Uncle Jackson's hoverchair is malfunctioning again and I'm needed in the living room.
