011: your family may not wait, sir, keep on believing
Considering the wide range of religious traditions and non-traditions in attendance in this school, it strikes me as strange that we should have a long weekend now. I'd assume that those who used the extra days for actual religious reasons were in the minority, even counting the pagan faiths from which the mainstream pseudo-Christian tradition is derived.

I'm not complaining, mind -- after all, only rarely do I have an excuse to go home, find various of my relatives gathered for essentially no reason at all, and eat tofurkey in a completely secular manner (the tofurkey may not have been universally appreciated, but I, personally, consider it a highlight of the weekend). Whether celebrating any sort of holiday or not, I hope the rest of the student body is taking advantage of this time.

Although I can't say I've ever participated in its traditions, I must admit that I've always been particularly struck by the blatancy of Easter. After all, the name comes directly from the German goddess Ēostre, and what other Christian holiday is determined by the cycles of the moon? And then, of course, there are the obvious fertility symbols. I shouldn't have to point them out because --

I'll tie this up later. On second thought, I probably won't -- Great-Uncle Jackson's hoverchair is malfunctioning again and I'm needed in the living room.

I wasn't there when my parents went shopping, but I'd assume Whole Foods, as that's where my family tends to buy all of its groceries.

Mind you, I've never had real turkey, so I couldn't tell you whether or not it tastes at all similar.

I'm slipping.

They did, and largely organic, as well. Considering the area, I'm sure you can understand why they didn't extend that into "locally grown."

Just kidding. I don't celebrate Easter--I'm not going to make a trip to mass to send smoke up to the heavens for you.

In any case, I don't believe the smoke would ever reach the heavens -- and that whatever is in said heavens either doesn't exist or doesn't care -- so I suppose the point is moot.

Have you been... painting then? The deserted campus must make painting outside considerably easier.

Pissaro, Degas--but I meant Monet, specifically. He left four of the Water Lilies murals to l'Orangerie in Paris, essentially a gift to the French state. They're in two oval rooms, like the sign of infinity, under diffuse light, and I've never been, but I really--I would really like to g
